St. Raphael Church, Medford, Massachusetts
DeIulis Brothers received a 1995 Merit Award from the Associated General Contractors of Massachusetts for this project, which was notable for the following:
- Extremely restricted site, only 26,000 square feet, located on a heavily traveled roadway, having limited access and mobility, directly abutting on either side the parish school and an apartment complex
- All masonry bearing construction with all granite exterior and limeston surrounds- the extensive and complex masonry work was self-performed by DeIulis Brothers and required great skill in hand selecting (and in many instances, hand-drilling and splitting larger stones) the appropriate stone for the exterior, both for size, texture, and color range (more than 350 tons in all)
- DeIulis Brothers achieved cost savings totaling nearly 10% of the project budget, including locating an acceptable alternate source for the granite (a sole source had been specified by the architect)
